Not a Gold week

The week started off good.  I did Day 1 of the Solid Gold 5 Day Workout and upped my repetitions to twenty for each exercise on the band resistance bench early Tuesday morning when I got home from work.  Thursday I did a two mile Leslie Sansone Walk DVD.  I wore two two pound weight belts along with one pound weight gloves.  But that was all I did.  No walking with Leslie or strength training on Friday or Saturday.  Not sure what happened or why I chose to sit instead of working on getting fit.  I didn't hit my weekly workout goals and I know I'm not going to get back in shape or get legs like Kahea if I don't exercise.  Have to get back to what I did the first week and hit my goals!

Back to where it all began

Just a quick little post.  At 5:00 A.M. Tuesday morning, I went back to where it all began.  I did Day 1 of the Sold Gold 5 Day Workout.  I enjoyed doing the workout, just as I had when I did it thirty years ago, and found it challenging, especially the abdominal exercises.  The trip down memory lane was wonderful and inspirational.  I also did twenty repetitions of each exercise on the band resistance bench.  Really felt so good to have exercised.

Getting started again

I started exercising again on Thursday evening.  In the Spring of 2009, I discovered Leslie Sansone and her Walk DVDs.  I have several different Walks from one mile to five miles.  I do have a few favorites and those will be my core aerobic workouts.  My goal is to do at least one of the Walks each of my days off.  I wear two weight belts which are two pounds each and one pound hand weights during the Walks.  I'm not sure whether I'll be doing any of the Walks on the nights I work.  I've had a workout bench with resistance bands for twenty years which I'll use for strength training.  My goal is to do strength training three times a week.
Thursday (7/31/14) I did the Walk Away The Pounds 2 mile walk.  This Walk is good.  I've given the DVD as a gift and it is my sister and brother-in-law's favorite Leslie Walk DVD.   I also used the band resistance bench and did fifteen repetitions of  six different exercises with an extra focus on my legs.
Friday (8/1/14) I did the 5K With A Twist.  That is my favorite Walk.  No strength training.
Saturday (8/2/14) I did Punch Up Your Walk which is four miles.  I also did strength training using the band resistance bench and did fifteen repetitions of each exercise with focus on arms and legs.
Off to a good start as far as exercising.  I go back to work Sunday night.  I work ten hours a day four days a week at a restaurant.  The challenge at work is to avoid the desserts I enjoy so much.  For the past few years I've given up desserts for Lent.  Time to give them up again.

Greetings!

In November 1983, I started watching the syndicated television show Solid Gold.  I did so at the request of my best friend who really liked the show and the dancers.  I had already formed an opinion of what  of what the show must be like based on the costumes the dancers wore.  I was wrong.  Some of the dancers were very talented.  Three, in particular, stood out from the rest for me: Deborah, Kahea and Pam.  The more I watched the show, the more I became a fan.  Of course I bought the Solid Gold 5 Day Workout when it was released on video.  That video led to me to find a job as an exercise/aerobics instructor.  I worked at a fitness studio from the summer of 1984 to the winter of 1985.  One of my goals was to get my legs in shape, actually I wanted legs like Kahea, the former gymnast.  I think I came close while teaching aerobics and taking a jazz class once a week.
Once I stopped teaching fitness, I stopped exercising completely.  That was almost twenty-nine years ago.  Since then, I have put on more weight than I ever thought I would.  Gone were the days when I could eat absolutely any food, and as much, as I wanted.  For the past six years I've wanted to lose weight, but never really made a complete effort.  I'd exercise, but not change my diet or even watch what I eat.  For the past three years I've been riding my bicycle to work, about 1.75 miles each way.  That helps just a little bit in keeping my legs somewhat in shape, but not enough to really make an impact on my weight.
This week I decided that I really want to get back in shape.  I want to exercise more and eat better.  So I'm going for the Solid Gold again!  Thanks to the Solid Gold Dancers for again being an inspiration thirty years later!
